Can you tell me what my options are for changing my hitch from fifth wheel to gooseneck? I have a Lippert 1116 19k Extended.

Hey Dustin, thanks for reaching out. I sure can. We have a few options for a gooseneck pin box that will replace your Lippert 1116 19K pin box. Here are the options:

- Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box - Lippert 1116/1716 - 30K GTW - 4.5K TW # GY48FR

- MORryde GooseTech 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box for 18K+ Trailers w/ Lippert 1116 # MR27MV

- Gen-Y Hitch Nomad 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box - 1621,1116, 1716 - 30K GTW - 6.5K TW # GY57ND

If it's within your budget, I definitely recommend going with a shock absorbing option. The Gen-Y # GY48FR is what I would lean towards. They do a great job smoothing out the ride and quieting things down. Plus they don't require any maintenance over time. It'll be a noticeable difference in ride quality compared to a standard pin box. Plus you get that gooseneck ball continence with no heavy 5th wheel hitch to deal with - you get your bed back.

Or if you want a standard non-cushioned goosebox, the Gen-Y Nomad # GY57ND will be your best bet.

Just keep in mind since you are switching to gooseneck you'll need to add safety chains. Use part # GY49GR for that if you go with the Gen-Y. Also grab part # GY86FR if you want all new bolts and hardware.

What kind of camper do you have? Do you think you'll go with a cushioned goosebox?

I removed my fifth wheel hitch and installed a Gen Y gooseneck. Frees up a lot of space in the truck bed and is very easy to hook and unhook. Also gives you a very smooth ride, no shucking back and forth. Definitely recommend The Gen Y hitch.

@JimM Thanks for sharing that, Jim, sounds like a great upgrade. Opening up the bed space and getting rid of that chucking makes a big difference in day-to-day use. Glad to hear it’s been easy to hook up and smooth on the road for you. Appreciate the recommendation!
