Upgrading Coleman Mach 13.5K BTU AC Unit From 2021 To New 15K BTU Unit

Updated 05/08/2026 | Published 05/04/2026

Question:

Hello I have a 2021 Coleman mach 13,5btu ductless unit on my trailer now. Would I be able to use my existing ductless vents and control panel to upgrade to this ac unit? Thank you

Hey Bryan, thanks for reaching out. You can upgrade the AC unit, but it will mean replacing your entire AC system - rooftop unit and controls/distribution box. Reason being the new Coleman units use a different refrigerant than the old units, and the new units are not backwards compatible with the old equipment. They wouldn't communicate with each other correctly.

That said, we do offer that Coleman unit as a complete kit. Here is what you'll need:

- Coleman-Mach Signature Mach 15 RV Air Conditioner System - Ductless - 15,000 Btu - Polished Black # CM63RR

This comes with the new 15K BTU AC unit and manual control ductless distribution box. Everything you need to replace/upgrade your AC system. The 15K BTU unit will have a bit more cooling capacity compared to the 13.5K unit - especially if its starting to fail or isn't working correctly.

What kind of camper do you have? Do you camp in a lot of warmer climates?

Thank you I have a 2021 palomino real lite 18’ trailer. Do you have any other cheaper alternatives that also have a variable compressor for an easy start when using 3400w generator. I live in Southern California and use they trailer mostly during spring and fall so not incredibly hot weather but definitely in the 80s and sometimes 90s

@Bryan Nice! I'm originally from southern CA so I know how it is. So, we have alternatives but anything with a variable speed compressor will be in the same price range as that Coleman unit. Like the Furrion Chill Cube # FR99TD is a great option that does a fantastic job cooling and has relatively low amp pull for startup and when running. We have other less expensive units but they wouldn't have the variable speed compressor. The Advent # ADV32SR for example. No variable speed compressor but it does come with a start capacitor which helps with the draw on startup.
