Hi Rod, great question!
Short answer, you will need to get up on the roof to replace the part # BV0554-01 vent cover, it cannot be done fully from inside by just removing the inner screen. I know the goal is to avoid that climb, but the way these lids are designed, they attach into a hinge track on the roof side of the vent, so even though you can remove the screen and some components from inside, the actual cover has to be installed from above.
The good news is this is a pretty straightforward swap once you have access. If your old vent lid is cracked or brittle, this one drops in as a direct replacement and uses a continuous metal hinge just like the Ventline V2094 made before 2008 and Elixir vents made after 1995 (which this cover is designed to fit). You simply slide the new lid onto the hinge rod and secure it in place. As long as the vent frame itself is still in good shape, you are not disturbing any roof sealant, so you are keeping everything sealed and dry.
If getting on the roof is a concern, some people mwill work carefully from a ladder at the side, but you will still need to reach that hinge area to do it properly and make sure it stays secure going down the road.
What do you usually haul in your 20 foot Haulmark, more of a track car setup, tools, or bikes?

I replaced mine on my snowmobile trailer. I did have to go on the roof which is not a big deal. Most of the job is done inside the trailer. There was a short video to watch which made it even easier. Took me about 10-15 minutes to do.

Thanks for the reply, however I answered my own question. I was mainly concerned about whether it was possible to somehow feed the new cover through the roof opening from within to replace the old. Didn't seem feasible as square pegs don't usually fit into smaller square holes, but thought I'd ask. So I got a little creative and removed the inner screen, operator, link, etc., per the instructions, then opened the cover fully and found the factory apparently never formed the retaining tabs on the cover hinge as I was able to simply reach through the opening & slide the cover off the hinge rail as if I were on the roof. Before I did that though, I attached a length of light rope to the old cover center support track from inside the trailer, then pitched the old cover off the tailer and attached the new cover in its place at the end of the rope and pulled the new cover to the opening atop the trailer. Once there I was able to reach through the opening and position the new cover and align the hinge and slide it into position, reinstalled the remaining parts and back in business without a single broken bone, etc. The retaining tabs aren't locked in place but it would be pretty easy to do if required. To all those who responded that it was a quick, simple job, yeah, and two years ago I wouldn't have even asked the question, but Gravity and I aren't close buddies any more, if you get my point. Thanks to all for the interest and guidance.

No, you will have to go on top. You will only be up there a couple minutes. Very simple to change out the lids.
