Tongue Weight Rating for Lippert RV Trailer Hitch

Updated 04/27/2026 | Published 04/24/2026

Question:

Can you tell me the tongue weight for this hitch? I have a 2024 Grand Design Imagine. And would like to install a hitch to the frame that I could use for both cargo or motorcycle hitch carrier. My Bike is approximately 580lbs. With accessories and gas. Id say more like 620-630lbs. And the generator is 102lbs per Harbor Freight specs. Figuring gas on this would bring it up to around 115lbs. Ideally Id like the ability to carry both on the back end. But worse case, if I have my bike loaded. I can always do as I am now. Put it the bike of my truck or inside the camper itself while traveling. From what I can gather I need a class IV hitch capable of 1000lbs. But cant seem to locate one yet.

Hey Eric! I reached out to Lippert and they said the tongue weight rating for the Lippert RV Trailer Hitch # LC28FC is 500 lbs. The best solution for your Imagine is to install the Curt Class 5 Universal Weld-on Hitch # 15903. This Class V still has a 2" receiver so it will fit your accessories and fits frames up to 60" wide.

The maximum tongue weight of this hitch is 1,500 lbs so it is more than enough to handle your bike and generator. However, you do want to check with Grand Design and make sure your trailer is capable of handling that weight. Just because the hitch can do it doesn't mean the trailer can. We recommend taking this to a professional welder for installation.

Any big trips coming up once you get the hitch installed?
