How to Reduce Play WIth Trailer Hitch Receiver Reducer Sleeves

Updated 04/18/2026 | Published 04/13/2026

Question:

The 2inch draw bars utilize a 2inch pin. When using the 3inch to 2inch adapter how do you reduce the pin slop in the hole since the 3inch adaptor uses a 3/4inch pin? Is you use the 1/2 pin the larger holes get worn with all the stops and starts over time.

Hi Steve; 2" ball mounts/accessories all use a standard 5/8" hitch pin so there will be some play in the # e33YR. That is normal for this type of setup. If you're using an accessory or ball mount with a hollow shank then the 5/8" diameter Lets Go Aero 3" Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock # LGA32ZR is the best solution to reduce that movement.

If you have a solid shank it is something you will have to live with using the smaller hitch pin. If this is for long term towing, you're better off getting a ball mount with a 3" shank to match your receiver so everything lines up nicely and the hitch pin matches.

What are you towing with this setup?
