Can The Replacement Entry Door Hinge LC198295 Be Screwed On?

Question:
2016 layton trident Hey guys, I would like to replace my old hinges and looks like the existing hinges are riveted. I seen some pictures of replacements using screws world you happen to know what kind they our you use for this??

Hello Shawn, thanks for reaching out. Yes, a lot of times door hinges are riveted on from the factory, but if you need to replace one, they don't have to be riveted. You can use screws or bolts and nuts, and they will work just fine. If you want to screw it on, you’re typically using #8 or #10 pan head screws, usually about 3/4" to 1" long depending on how thick your door/frame is. Most RV manufacturers use self-tapping screws into aluminum or steel framing, or wood screws if it’s going into wood. You'll probably need to drill out the current rivets.
If you’re starting fresh, go with stainless steel screws so they don’t rust, and use a little sealant in the holes to keep water out.

I used rivets to replace my hinges and that was about 2 years ago. No issues with the replacements and the rivets are still holding strong

I would pop rivet that door hinge. Screws like to back out & eventually after a while strip out. Find a rivet & drill bit that is just snug to the hinge holes and pop it home.

Mine are screwed on. The holes in the new ones aren’t exactly the same as the old ones so it took some time to get everything lined up. It was a little bit of a pain, but you can do it.
