Looking To Replace Ducted Dometic AC Unit On 2016 27' Airstream

Updated 04/16/2026 | Published 04/08/2026

Question:

I have a 2016 27foot Airstream with a 15k BTU ducted A/C system. I want to replace the existing A/C. What model GE Profile A/C do I need and will it directly replace the original Dometic unit, including the condensate lines?

Hey Gil, thanks for reaching out. We do have a replacement for that but with your current Dometic unit being original from 2016, you will have to replace the entire AC system meaning a new rooftop unit, distribution box and thermostat. For that, I recommend either one of the following depending on if you want heat capability or not:

- GE Appliances Deluxe Plus RV AC System w/ Heat Pump - Ducted - 15,000 Btu - White - Complete System # GE85ZR

- GE Appliances Deluxe Plus RV AC System - Ducted - 15,000 Btu - White - Complete System # GE95ZR

These GE units will match the same footprint as your Dometic unit so install should be fairly straightforward. The new GE units are not cross compatible or backwards compatible with the old Dometic equipment so that's why it's necessary to replace the whole system. Once you do this will be an efficient and effective cooling system that will make those summer camping trips much more comfortable.

Where do you usually take the Airstream? Do you think you'll need heat or just cooling?

Thanks for getting back to me. I have a few questions: The GE85ZR is a higher-profile unit. What would the part number be for the 15k BTU ducted GE low-profile version in white with a heat pump? I know that Airstream is currently supplying trailers with these. Does the new GE use the condensation lines the old Dometic Penguin II used? Thanks

@GilB Yes we have the low profile model available too. Here is the part number: - GE Appliances Low-Profile RV AC w/ Heat Pump - Kit for Ducted Install - 15,000 Btu - White - R32 # GE38RR The new GE units do not use condensation lines. What condensation the AC unit produces collects inside the pan and drains onto the roof through multiple holes.
