Recommended Bearing Kit for a 3,500 lbs Axle on a Boat Trailer

Updated 04/13/2026 | Published 04/03/2026

Question:

Need a bearing kit for a 1995 ez loader trailer. Only number I could find was on one of the race, L68111. Seal was stuck so tight I destroyed the inner bearing and race driving it out. Thanks

Hey Kevin welcome back! The Hub Bearing Kit item # BK2-100 is most likely what you'll need. The item # L68111 race is what's used on the item # L68149 bearing found on 3,500 lbs axles. Without that second bearing part number or a measurement, I can't 100% confirm.

A quick way to confirm item # BK2-100 is what you'll need is to measure your spindle with a digital caliper like item # PTW80157 and measure the spots marked C and D on the diagram below. C will be 1.378" and D will be 1.063" if you have a 3,500 lbs axle with a #84 Spindle.

The Hub Bearing Kit item # BK2-100 includes everything needed to repack one hubs bearings, races, and seal.

What kind of boat do you have?

The c and D measurements are indeed 1.378 and 1.063 although my caliper only goes to two decimal places. My boat is a 1996 Skeeter200SL. I have a second question. It sounds like from youtube that getting the outer race out and pressed back in requires some specialized tools I don't have and really don't want to buy. Too bad because all I was planning on doing was repacking the bearings but the inner seal on the one I have started with was stuck tight and I was unable to pry it out and had to drive it out, damaging the bearing and driving out the race in the process. So, do you sell complete hubs with races, bearings and seals installed? If so how much? Thanks Kevin

@KevinB Awesome thanks for getting those measurements! The item # BK2-100 is indeed what you would need. The CE Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly w/ Case item # CE13515 is going to be our only marine grade, pregreased hub, that has the bearings, races, and seal already installed. It has a 5 on 4-1/2" lug nut pattern and is sold individually. What lug nut pattern do your current hubs have? That is a nice boat btw!

@JerredH 5 bolt pattern but I have brakes so would need drum assembly.

@KevinB We've got quite a few braking hubs but none of the marine grade ones come with prepacked and greased bearings. Which 5 lug pattern do you have? There's 3 common ones on older trailers. I linked a help article below that will show you how to measure yours.

Kevin, Drive out your old races with a soft metal drift, brass or aluminum and a hammer. clean your hubs out good, apply a small amount of grease to the outer surface of the new race. Use the old race on top of the new race to tap it into the boss inside of the hub. be sure to place the old race with the thick side down so you can tap it back out of the hub with your hammer and drift after the new race is in place. If you are careful, you can use a steel drift, however, when tapping out the old race damage can happen to the face of the new race.

@JerredH Don't know if you saw this above. Does it matter these are not ez lube. Have bearing buddies. Probably should replace them too. Over 20 yrs old. Will model 1968 be correct. Inner diameter of hub is 1.96. Thanks
