Should I Install Portable Or Fixed Water Filtration System In 2017 Winnebago Minnie Winnie Camper?

Updated 03/25/2026 | Published 03/24/2026

Question:

We’ve got a 2017 Winnebago Minnie Winnie and I’m trying to decide if I should filter water outside or just install something inside and be done with it.

Good afternoon Steve, that really comes down to how you want to manage setup vs convenience.

A portable system like the AR3 Elite # GB59FR filters water before it even enters your RV, which is great for overall protection and water quality.

If you’d rather install something once and forget about it, the TRIO # GB44FR 3-stage or SOLO # GB64FR single-stage both mount inside your RV and filter water as it flows to your faucets.

If you don't mind doing some plumbing and finding space under the sink or in a cabinet nearby, I think the permanent inside systems are better. But if you don't want anything permanent and just want a filtration system for whenever the water is questionable, the portable systems take care of that.

Where do you normally go camping? Is the water usually bad tasting?

I like the idea of installing it once and not messing with it every trip. I’ve got some space under the sink, just wasn’t sure if I’d be missing out by not filtering before it comes in.

@Steve Going with something like the TRIO inside is definitely the “set it and forget it” route. Very convenient for long-term use with just replacing the filters every now and then. If you’ve already got room under the sink, you’re in a good spot to make that work cleanly. You won't have to worry about not filtering the water at the spigot since you can install the TRIO anywhere in your water supply line - so you can put it before the fresh water tank, water heater, faucet, etc.
