Is There A Water Filter Kit For RV That Spends Some Time At Campground And Some Off-Grid?

Updated 03/25/2026 | Published 03/24/2026

Question:

We do a mix of campground stays and a few off-grid trips in Colorado each year. Is there a way to handle both without buying two completely different water filter setups?

Hey Tyler, you’ve got a couple ways to approach that depending on how often you’re off-grid.

If most of your time is still campgrounds, the AR3 Essential # GB39FR will cover your day-to-day really well. Then for occasional off-grid trips, some folks just carry extra water rather than switching systems.

If you want true flexibility, the ARX+ # GB54FR is the only one here that can actually pull from lakes or containers thanks to its built-in pump. It can be connected to a campground spigot, but it’s not really what it’s designed for - and you’d still want to add a pressure regulator since it doesn’t include one. Blue Tech says "The ARX+ system was not designed to be connected to pressurized water, but after lab testing the ARX+ system with a connection to a 60 PSI water source for 2,000 gallons, no issues were observed."

If you want a very basic water filter on a sink faucet, you could always just get a screw-on faucet filter.

So it really comes down to how often you’re away from hookups. Are those Colorado trips a couple weekends a year, or something you’re trying to do more of?

Probably just a few trips a year off-grid, and I don't want to overcomplicate things. Sounds like the AR3 might be enough for now.

@Tyler Nice, yeah the off-grid is nice to have, but most people plan for off-grid trips with plenty of water jugs etc. so it's not really a necessity in some instances.
