Why Would RV Propane Regulator Start Hissing

Updated 03/11/2026 | Published 03/08/2026

Question:

My original high pressure reg was hissing and emitting propane. I am assumed it had failed and purchased this one to replace it. Installed this new regulator and it started hissing and emitting propane. Left it run for about 30 seconds and no change. Is this a faulty regulator or possibly something else going on? This regulator is installed on the passenger side of my 5th wheel ahead of my main regulator. I just replaced my main regulator with change over like for like and the my other propane tank works fine.

Hey Chris, did you have the tanks recently filled? Is it possible the tanks were overfilled? Usually this happens when a tank was over filled and the pressure relief valve is relieving pressure to prevent basically an explosion.
