Does OEM Brake Controller In 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning Work With EOH Brake Actuator HS381-9067?

Updated 03/10/2026 | Published 03/06/2026

Question:

Will this electric over hydraulic brake actuator kit work with a 2025 Ford F150 Lightning factory OE trailer brake controller on a SeaDoo Switch trailer with surge disc brakes? I am tired of regen braking constantly locking up the factory surge brakes on my 2022 SeaDoo Switch trailer made by Karavan. Never mind the efficiency lost going down hill with the surge locking the trailer.. regen should be taking the full braking force. Long story short: I want control over my trailer brakes! Just confused since the item says don’t use certain OE Ford brake controllers but doesn’t mention 2025 F150. Thank you!

Hey Daniel,

The OEM Brake controller in your 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning has an Electric-Over-Hydraulic mode, so it will indeed work just fine with the EOH Actuator # HS381-9067 you were looking at. This kit includes basically everything you need, just make sure to lock-out your current surge actuator so it can no longer move ones the brake lines are disconnected from it.

Sorry to here the Lightning braking is putting up a fight with your SeaDoo trailer, but overall how's the truck handling towing?

I replaced my boat trailer brake system with this hydrostatic system. It works flawlessly and easy to install. I did it all myself with no issues!!!!

I replaced my surge brakes with the kit your looking at. Its going on a year now and I haven't had any issues. I watched some videos and did it myself. Not hard at all.

I put this exact system on a 24,000lb equipment trailer that had air over hydraulic originally and it seems to work with any vehicle it is hooked to including a F550 with factory trailer brake controller. I currently operate it with the prodigy P2 electric brake controller which also operates the system flawlessly. Get rid of the surge setup completely and put this system on and you will be much happier. You also have to have the 1600psi system to run the disc brakes. Even though my brakes are drum it was recommended by a tech from hydrastar to run the 1600psi system due to the weight capacity of my trailer, I have been very pleased with the system which works well even at full capacity of trailer. the trailer brakes will stop the trailer and the 30,000lb motor home pulling it all by itself. Very impressive system.

Daniel: I purchased a 2001 boat trailer in 2021. The original brake system used a surge-brake tongue-mounted actuator with hydraulically actuated drum brakes. They were in such bad shape that I re-built the entire braking system with all new parts except for the drum, which I cleaned up and re-used. I did not care for the operation of the surge-brake system, and so in 2024, following the suggestion of e-tailer folks, I ordered an electric-over-hydraulic disc brake system for the trailer. The instructions for assembling the system and making it operational were very straight-forward, and the only "glitch" that I had was that my 2022 Chevy Colorado had not come equipped with a brake controller - so I had one installed. The braking system has worked perfectly well in the 2 boating seasons which I have used it (BTW - my boat, outboard engine , full 80-gallon fuel tank and trailer totals out at 5,000 pounds). I would recommend the electric-over-hydraulic disc brake system sold by eTrailer to anyone. And the trailer has been used to launch my 20' Grady White boat in both fresh and salt water.
