Question:
Im looking to flat tow a 2021 jeep grand cherokee behind a 2017 fr3 motorhome. Iv decided on the blue ox patriot portable brake system. And the e98950 base plate. What tow bars are compatible with this setup? And any other components you recommend?

Hey Nathan, welcome back! The etrailer Invisible Base Plate Kit item # e98950 is exactly what you need for your 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee so long as yours isn't a SRT-8 or one of the Trackhawk models.
For a compatible tow bar, I recommend the etrailer XHD item # e94ZR. This tow bar has a 10,000 lbs capacity so you won't have to worry about how much cargo or gear you have loaded inside your Jeep. It fits a 2" hitch receiver and includes safety cables that route through the tow bar so you don't have to worry about excess slack and dragging.
Another great feature of the etrailer XHD item # e94ZR are the non-binding release levers that make connecting and disconnecting to the item # e98950 quick and easy, even on uneven ground or at sharp angles. The arms are self supporting so they won't drop down to the ground, which means you'll only need one person to connect the tow bar.
The Blue Ox Patriot item # BLU37TR is going to be a great portable braking system for your Jeep! It comes with everything you need to get up and running.
We actually made installation videos for the etrailer item # e98950 and the Blue Ox Patriot item # BLU37TR being installed on a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have linked them below so you can see how to get those parts setup.
Here are the rest of the parts you'll need to flat tow your 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee:
Wiring Harness - Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit item # RM-15267
High Low Adapter - The tow bar needs to be within 3" of level. If you measure the height of the inside top of the hitch receiver tube on your RV, and the height difference is more than 3 inches above/below the base plate tab height, you'll need a high/low adapter. I have linked a FAQ article that explains all this in more detail along with our selection of adapters.
Is this your first time flat towing?

I pull my 2018 F150 4x4 behind my 2014 Forest River Legacy 340 KP Diesel Pusher. I have pulled it through 35 states so far with no problems. Hookups and breakaways are pretty quick and easy, although a hammer and punch help a lot with the disconnect. It seems I always park in some sort of a bind. The towing is smooth with no jerk or bounce.

We bought the tow bar to pull our 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee behind our 2018 Tiffin Phaeton. It's been a dream: easy to hook up and disconnect. We did add the charge cable to our installation and that has worked out very well with a fully charged toad at the end of the trip. David V

I did not choose to use the braking package on my 2012 Jeep two door wrangler. So can’t comment there nor after towing with my 2025 Winnebago Sunstar do I think I need to. However, reading some of the comments I believe there is a Hotwire for keeping the tow vehicle battery charged in the coiled wire connection bundle. Otherwise the hitch apparatus works flawless.

I use this tow bar and a Brake Buddy Select 3 to tow our Gladiator with small lift & 35s. It is simple to use and fairly compact when folded up. Only small issue is you need to be completely straight behind motorhome for both sides of bar to lock in to tow position when you pull back against it. Sometimes one side doesn't want to lock. Im sure that can happen with any tow bar though. Overall very happy with purchase and function.

I've used the eTrailer e94ZR tow bars a couple times. No problems. I haven't tried disconnecting on rough ground yet. Didn't bind on fairly level ground.
