Hello e trailer expert, I have a 13 Tacoma, but no existing tailgate lock. Can I use the PL5500CONV kit and If so, what additional steps will be required? drilling, etc

Hi Gregg; the Pop & Lock Valet Conversion Kit # PL5500CONV is designed to replace an existing lock core. Since you do not have a lock on your 2013 Tacoma this will not fit.
Instead, you need a replacement handle with a lock like the Pop & Lock Custom Tailgate Handle with Lock - Codes to Ignition Key - Manual - Spruce Mica # PAL5411. You will remove the inside tailgate panel to access and replace your current handle. No drilling is required.
Are you pairing this with a tonneau cover to keep your bed secure?

thank you for the explanation and suggestion (custom replacement handle w/lock in spruce mica.) Yes, I have an existing tonneau cover and just exploring options relative to securing it. Is the PAL5411 available in black? (Preference is to to replace oem handle with same color rather than spruce mica.) Thank you.
