How to Adapter Truck and Trailer for EZ Connector Without Permanent Changes in Wiring

Updated 02/07/2026 | Published 02/02/2026

Question:

I wear out the 7 pin connectors on my trailer and truck just from use. I like the idea of your magnet design but I just want 2 adapters, one to plug in the 7 pin on the truckand leave it there and one to plug into the 7 pin on the trailer cordand leave it there no wiring, no permanent adapting. Do you make that? I didn’t see what I was describing. And of course I’d buy multiple so I can adapt all my trailers and trucks

Hey John! If you don't want to swap out the existing connectors and just use adapters then the # 319-R7-52 and # 319-R7-51 will allow you to accomplish this. One plugs into the existing 7-way on your truck, the other plugs into the 7-way on the trailer side. You can leave the adapters in place so they're ready to go whenever you need them. You may also want to add the dummy plug # 319-R7-11 to the vehicle side when not in use.

If you have USCAR connections on your truck side 7-ways you could also add a separate connector with the # 319-R7-06 or # 319-S7-09. This plugs in-line with the existing 7-way and you could mount the EZ Connector at the back so you have both available. See the attached photo.

What kind of trailers are you towing?

I use these on all four trailers I have. The reason I went to these was I have backup cameras and it does away with extra wiring. It’s been about five years with no problems. You must keep both plugs clean, with the magnet love to pickup metal shavings. The only other thing is you need to support the pigtail really good with no locking devise on the connection I have had a problem with that. eTrailer sells a pigtail holder that took care of this. It bolts to the trailer frame and is spring loaded and the cable wine in place on the top. It also gives you an excuse not to let someone borrow your stuff. Well worth the extra cost. If you need other parts you can find things on ebay.and also the factory. I personlly use the 14 pin on most, but the 7 pin is interchangeable if you I use a truck with out the camera.
