Question:

Hi there. I have a 2014 Ford F-150 XLT Super Crew truck with LT265/70R17 tires. Im looking for Chains for the truck and was wondering if you may be able to provide a recommendation of which sets of chains that you sell for this? This is a 4x4 capable 4x2 Rear primarily truck, so Im not sure if I need to get chains for all 4 tires or just the 2 rears. Thank you!

Hi Kevin!

We definitely have tire chains for the 265/70R17 tires on your 2014 Ford F-150 XLT, but the correct ones for you will depend on what you are wanting them for.

For every day use, so to say, the Konig Commercial Truck Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link - Assisted Tensioning - 1 Pair # th01571267 is one of my favorite options. They are sturdy, on the easier side to put on, don't need any other accessories, and the diamond pattern means there is always chain on the ground. They are a little pricey, but they work very well and are very easy to live with.

If you are finding yourself in off-road situations on any kind of basis, the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains - Ladder Pattern - Twist Links - Manual Tensioning - 1 Pair # TC2228 would be a very good choice. You will want to also grab the # PW105 adjuster to keep them from whipping around while driving, but the larger heavier duty chains will give you a lot more bite. We also have these with V-Bars ( # PWH2828SC) for even more traction (which you can see in the included picture), but this is more of an extreme style chain for a lot of off-road use in heavy snow and ice.

As to how many you need, you really only need them on the drive wheels (so the rear wheels in your case). You can run them on all 4 wheels, but it typically isn't necessary. If you are going off-road, that would probably call for chains on all 4 wheels, but for on the road driving, just one pair would be perfectly fine. Just be aware that each of the part numbers is for a pair of chains (or tensioners), so if you do want to have all 4 wheels covered, you will need to order a quantity of two.

Speaking of which, what are you needing the chains for? Is it a trip to the mountains?

Thanks for the recommendation Lazer S. A question about these chains, are they all low profile ("Class S" compatible?) as I've seen other notes for Ford F-150s of the same era (2009-2014) needing lower profile chains? Thank you!

@KevinL Oh dang! I wouldn't have thought a truck would need Class S tire chains, but you are correct. I just checked the owner's manual and you do need to use them. The # TC2228 and # PWH2828SC are not going to be low profile. and the # th01571267 is technically a lower profile than the other two, but still not Class S. So with that said, you are going to want the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link - 1 Pair # TC2326. These are Class S rated chains and has the adjuster built in, so you do not need any other parts. They are very similar to the Konig ones I originally mentioned, but these are the ones I almost always recommend when Class S chains are needed. Sorry for any confusion.
