Which Roadactive Suspension Kit for 2022 Ford F-150 4WD

Updated 01/22/2026 | Published 01/20/2026

Question:

I am considering purchasing the RAS 3611-Y for my 2022 F-150 Lariat, 4wd hybrid truck to reduce sag when the bed is loaded and pulling my sailboat. There is no mention of powertrain affecting selection of type Y vs YHD. Does the extra battery weight under the bed PowerBoost option make the RAS heavy duty version a better selection? The majority of my driving is with minimal loading and I dont want to severely impact the smooth ride I currently have. Thanks for your assistance with this.

Hey Douglas, whenever available I recommend going with the HD version of the Roadactive kits like the part # RAS3611-YHD that fits your 2022 Ford F-150 4WD. The extra capacity of this kit over the non-HD basically doesn't have any downside aside from costing a little more so it's the way to go to get a little more headroom in terms of suspension support you could have available.

The HD version does not ride rougher in any way than the non-HD version. You will see an improvement in ride quality with this kit installed for sure though!

Douglas, I used the HD version of the Roadactive kit on my 2020 F150 and I would not change a thing. It makes my ride much more enjoyable when towing my travel trailer. I highly recommend it. Even with the trailer attached, I think that the ride is improved. It's very easy to install. Good luck.

@BrandonL Thanks! That seems to be the consensus on the Roadactive kits!

I purchased the heavy duty one for my 2018 F150 crew cab with 6.5 bed and wished I had purchased the regular one. I was looking for a more controlled feel when hitching up the used travel trailer we purchased - Grand Design Imagine 2400BH - about 6000 lbs typical loading. The HD Road Active suspension did help. It also raised the tailgate at least an inch even when at a minimal tension setting. It is my guess that the regular version would have been better for my situation. The ride was noticeably stiffer. Not bad but stiffer. It did make the truck feel more like a sports car around turns such as driving in the mountains - good. Daily driving on the expressway, a little more stiff over bumps. I am also a sales rep and have a bed full of heavy samples often under a fiberglass cap. The Road Active helped with that. Not long after adding the Road Active, I needed to change shocks (leaking). I went with an upgraded shock and that offered more control and stiffened a touch more. At the same time did the front struts which leveled the truck but raised the entire thing a little over an inch. At that point the daily ride was stiffer than I liked but it did handle loads better and less body roll. If I could re-design the Road Active, I would make it possible to click it on when towing the travel trailer which I do just a few times a year. Then be able to remove it when I am not towing. It was shortly after doing all of this to the suspension that the transmission started acting funny again (about 150k miles). I traded the Ford for a Toyota Tundra. It has coil springs. The suspension on the Tundra is quite soft. Tried the Timbren. When the trailer had the truck sitting on the Timbren, then more stable. But when unloaded the suspension sat just off of the Timbren and going over a bump led to a jolt and sometimes a donkey kick. I returned the Timbren. I then tried Rough Country (think called Vertex) variable shocks and like them. Increase the damping when towing or loading the truck bed and lighten when not. It is subtle and even the lowest setting is more firm than the original shocks. What made the biggest difference in stability of the travel trailer was upgrading the suspension on the trailer. The original leaf springs were not completely flat or W, but they did not have a great smiley face. I went with a slightly stronger leaf spring and Morryde CRE3000 equalizer. This greatly reduced the body roll of the trailer and made towing much easier. Hope all of this helps you make your decision.

Imstalled the HD version on my 2017 F150 towing an Airstream Flying Cloud 27FBT with an Equalizer WDH. Improved any sag and actually improved the ride even when not towing. Shop that installed for me said they had installed one other similar system and got a similar response from that owner. Highly recommend.

@DavidG Nice! Thanks for helping spread the good word about the RAS kit. Guys on my team joke around asking if I am on their payroll due to how often I recommend it but it's the real deal!
