Does Turning Dometic Thermostat DMC84RR All The Way Down Turn Furnace Power Off?

Updated 01/08/2026 | Published 01/07/2026

Question:

Have a new 2026 Keystone Cougar 316RLS with an analog thermostat for the furnace. This Dometic DMC84RR digital version looks like it would be plug-and-play, but I cant tell from the info, specs or informational video if turning it all the way down turns the furnace power off?

Hello Joe, thanks for reaching out. To answer your question, no, turning the Dometic # DMC84RR thermostat all the way down does not shut the furnace completely off like flipping a power switch. The digital thermostat will command the furnace to stop firing and hold a low set point, but the furnace controller still has standby power going to it so the thermostat and display stay alive. This is how most digital RV furnace thermostats work, including the # DMC84RR.

Hmm, I'm a bit unclear. I'm not talking about turning off the thermostat itself, I'm talking about turning off the furnace. The Suburban analog thermostat that comes on the trailer, literally a little plastic tab that moves back and forth with no temperature references of any kind other than 9 positions "cooler to warmer", has a labeled "off" position if turned all the way down. Are you saying there is no such thing as a digital thermostat that will let me turn the furnace off completely? I'm not talking about turning off the thermostat, I'm talking about turning off the furnace. My purpose for asking the original question is whether there is a digital thermostat to replace the current unit that will let me set a specific temperature rather than guessing using unlabeled "cooler to warmer" hash marks, and also turn the furnace off when not in use?
