Looking For A Brake Controller For My Ford Transit And Subaru Ascent

Updated 02/22/2026 | Published 01/06/2026

Question:

Hello, I have a 2020 Ford Transit 130 AWD and a 2019 Subaru Ascent Premium. I need brake controllers for both cars. The one im interested in is the redarc towpro elite. But it says that its not compatible. Why is that? ive read on forums of people using the redarc on a ford transit. Thanks!

Hey Josef,

The reason it is saying not compatible is because for that Redarc brake controller # RED75CR there is no custom fit plug and play harness for the Ford Transit. You can still install that brake controller you will just have to splice into the factory wiring in order to install. Most people don't like doing that but if that is okay with you then the Redarc would work for both your vehicles.

For the Subaru there is a harness available to make it a plug and play installation. That Redarc part is # RED25CR. So both will work with your vehicles, it will just be some more work for your Ford Transit.

What kind of trailer(s) are you towing?

Thanks! Do you know where the splice is made?

@JosefK It is different for each vehicle. Typically the wires are on the left side under the dash by the steering wheel. The factory tends to sometimes tie them back and hide them so it is hard to say.

@NickS Redarc suggested this for the transit. Do you concur? ETBC7 Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires etrailer Accessories and Parts ETBC7

@Josef if you have a 4-way already and don't have a 7-way then yes, the # ETBC7 is what you need to complete your brake controller installation. If you don't have a 4-way you will also need # C56327 (assuming this is a T-150 or T-250).
