What Diameter are the Chain Anchors on the Demco A-Frame Trailer Coupler DM13205-95?

Question:
The DM13205-95 couple has two pairs of tabs on the underside with threaded holes to attached safety chains. How am I supposed to use these? What side hardware do I need? I see a previous response that states the chains should be attached to the frame and not the coupler, but I assume thats just for liability reasons. If the threaded tabs on the bottom side of the coupler are not for safety chains, then what are they for?

Hey Jon, welcome back! Those are indeed for safety chains. The chain anchor holes are 1/2" in diameter on the Demco 50-Degree A-Frame Trailer Coupler w/ Jack Hole item # DM13205-95. To attach a set of safety chains like the item # BPH94MR to them you will want to use 1/2" grade 5 bolts.
If you're concerned about attaching safety chains directly to the coupler, you can weld two of the item # E950 or item # 3375471000 to your trailer's frame.
What kind of trailer do you have?

Thanks for the quick response, Jerred! I have a dual axle 16'x8' steel deck homemade trailer (I did not build it, I bought it, but I am now refurbishing it). I'm guessing it weighs about 1500 lbs empty and with a 7k lb max weight. I believe it was designed to be a utility trailer, but I'm using it as a car hauler.
