Question:

Will this TowSmart hitch fit my 2024 Outback Limited XT? I’d like to use it for a bike rack, not towing.

Yes, Josh - the TowSmart # TS34ZR is confirmed to fit your 2024 Subaru Outback Limited XT perfectly. It uses the factory frame attachment points, so there’s no drilling involved, just a little exhaust lowering and heat shield trimming per the instructions. I'd definitely go with this hitch since it's the common 2" opening which fits tons of accessories.

It also has a strong matte black finish and plenty of tongue weight capacity for a heavy-duty rack, up to 675 lbs. Just make sure you check your owner's manual for the Subaru to make sure you don't exceed the weight ratings.

Since you’re just carrying bikes, you won’t need wiring or a ball mount. What kind of rack are you using - platform or hanging style?

does the TowSmart hitch sit low enough on the Outback XT that a platform rack will still tilt away without hitting the bumper?

@Emily Yes, you should be totally fine with a platform rack. The TowSmart # TS34ZR sits just under the bumper, and the receiver height on the Outback XT gives you plenty of room for the tilt mechanism to clear. Most modern platform racks (Kuat, Yakima, RockyMounts, Thule, etc.) are designed with SUVs like the Outback in mind, so they hinge well above the bumper line. If you want, tell me which rack you’re looking at - I can check the tilt angle and the rack’s pivot point to be sure it’ll clear your XT’s liftgate. For reference, I've attached a video where Evangeline tests out the Benton Shifts&Grins Bike Rack # B82FR on a 2024 Outback, and you can see if is able to tilt down and up just fine with the same style hitch!
