Does Curt Trailer Wiring Harness # C56353 Have to Run to Vehicle Battery
Updated 11/12/2025 | Published 11/09/2025 >
Question:
Do I have to run the black hot wire all the way to the battery for the C56353? Why cant I take 12v off the running lights in the back and power the module when the lights are on?

Hey Matt, I know it's tempting to try and use a shortcut for the power wire of the Curt harness part # C56353 but the reason you have to run it to the vehicle battery is because that's what provides the circuit protection that prevents shorts from damaging your vehicle wiring. If there's a short instead of overdrawing your delicate vehicle wiring it instead tries to draw from the battery which won't hurt it.
