Will A 7" Drop Ball Mount Be Enough For A 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 AT4X?
Question:
Just bought a new GMC 2500 AT4X. This truck comes from the factory with a 1.5” lift. Need a 2.5” hitch and your video on the multi-pro tailgate is very helpful. Question is whether a 7” drop is enough…? I measure 24” from the driveway to the center of the hitch/receiver. See photo.

Hey Jonathan, congrats on the new truck. The 7" drop should be enough, but it is hard to say for sure without knowing what trailer you will be pulling. The 7" drop will get your ball height at 17" or 18" (we measure from the upper inside edge of the receiver which is more like 25"). Most trailers will have a coupler height of around 17" or 18", so the # BWTS20066BMP ball mount should get you to where you are definitely close enough to level. We consider anything within 3" of level to be safe to tow, but the closer you can get to level the better.
If you have access to your trailer, you can set it on level ground and measure from the ground to the center of the ball coupler. This measurement will give you a really good idea of whether the 7" drop will be enough or not. I imagine that it will be sufficient. If you have not purchased a trailer yet, the dealer should be able to tell you the coupler height so you can make sure and get something that will work with your lifted truck.
