Replacing 5th Wheel 1716 Pin Box With Upgraded Cushioned Gooseneck On 2020 Grand Design Reflection

Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 10/29/2025

Question:

We tow a 2020 Grand Design Reflection 303RLS and from the spec sheet it shows a Lippert 1716 pin-box. We’re thinking of converting to a gooseneck for better bed-space - is the MR39MV the right MORryde GooseTech adapter for us?”

Lisa - you’re on the right track. For your Reflection 303RLS, if it indeed has the Lippert 1716 pin box, then the MORryde GooseTech model # MR39MV is made for that exact pin-box bolt-pattern. The 1716 is very common in that size trailer category.

Just double-check that your trailer’s GTW gross trailer weight and the pin-box label matches the 1716 rather than a different variant so you pick the correct adapter. This unit is rated for RVs between 11.5K to 14K GTW. Once confirmed, you’ll get the gooseneck hitch freedom (no bulky 5th wheel hitch anymore) and a more cushioned ride!

What truck bed and gooseneck hitch are you planning to use?

Thanks, Andrew! We’re towing with a 2021 Ford F-350 long bed that has the factory puck system and B&W ball. Is the install something we could do ourselves or should we take it to a shop?

@Lisa Nice setup, Lisa - that F-350 long bed is perfect for this conversion. If you’ve got a good torque wrench and an extra set of hands, you can absolutely install the # MR39MV yourself. It’s about 175 lbs, so a hoist or floor jack makes it easier. Just follow MORryde’s torque specs and add the safety chain kit # 49150 during install. Most folks knock it out in a couple hours, but if you’d rather not lift the pin box, any RV service center can handle it quickly. I've linked our shop finder if you need to have someone else do it.
