Recommended License Plate Holder for Bike Racks That Does Not Require Splicing Wires

Updated 11/01/2025 | Published 10/27/2025

Question:

I see all of the license plate lights such as for a bike rack have a simple pigtail, no harness to plug in. Is the correct way for wiring these to use the quick splice things on the right wires in my existing harness for the rack brake/turn signals?

No, there's plenty of license plate light options for bike racks that don't require using the item # SWC502905-1 to splice into your vehicle's wiring. For example the Thule License Plate Holder for Bike Racks item # TH35JV plugs directly into your vehicle's 4-way connector.

What specific bike rack do you have? There's few custom fit options out there for lights and license plate brackets.

As it turns out, my add on turn signals lighting isn't easily spliced anyway. I can add a Y-adapter cable and then set something up from there. I have a Kuat Piston Pro rack with the nice add-on plate holder they have, specific to the rack, which is why I was looking for an add-on light.

@Jim Ok, I see what you're doing. You're just trying to add a light to the License Plate Holder for Kuat Piston Pro item # KU69RR. I do not have a way just to add a single light to this. All of my options would be setups like item # C53201.
