Hey Robin! Are you looking for a complete flat tow setup, or do you already have some parts of the system?

For baseplates and tow bar, I'd go with Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-522203-5 and the Roadmaster Nighthawk # RM-676 you were looking at. These work seamlessly together, and are among the more popular and more reliable setups out there.

In order to get the electrical signals for lights and brakes to your towed vehicle, you'll need Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit # RM-154.

Most states require supplemental braking systems when flat towing, so I'd recommend adding the Blue Ox Patriot Portable Flat Tow Brake System - Proportional # BLU37TR. You'll also want a charge line kit # RM-156-25 to keep the tow vehicle's battery charged while flat towing.

This should be everything to get your Ram 1500 ready for flat towing behind an RV! Let me know what you think, or if you have any questions at all! Happy to help :)

Andrew I would prefer to use a more heavy duty Blue Ox unit in place of the Roadmaster can you suggest which model suits .

@RobinK You can certainly use a heavier duty tow bar, especially helpful so you have a bit more headroom for the weight of the truck. I'd look into the Blue Ox Avail Non-Binding Tow Bar - RV Mount - 2" Hitch - 10,000 lbs # BX7420 which is easily one of the best ones on the market. To work with the baseplates linked above, you'll also need adapter # BX88185. Let me know what you think Robin.

Andrew Just to be clear I want to make sure I have the best not necessarily the cheapest flat tow kit setup for my 2023 1500 Dodge Laramie, so I intend to use the following products Roadmaster base plate kit - RM-522203-5 Blue Ox Portable flat tow Brake System - BLU37TR along with RM-751000 brake switch adapter. Blue Ox BX7420 Tow Bar with Blue Ox BX88185 Adapter. Roadmaster RM-154 Universal wiring kit Is that all I need to complete the installation and ease of installation and time and ease to hook up and unhook is also a major factor. Your suggestions appreciated. Thanks

@RobinK Hey Robin! I understand what you're wanting, and those are among the best and most reliable parts to get your 2023 1500 Ram Laramie ready for flat towing. That said, you technically don't need the Roadmaster Universal Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751000 I'm now realizing. Sorry for not thinking about that earlier. Basically that Blue Ox Portable brake system works in a way that doesn't require that light switch kit, so that will save you a bit of installation time and money! One other thing I'd add is a charge line kit to keep the battery topped off while flat towing # RM-156-25. Blue Ox has a very strong reputation for being top notch when it comes to quality and ease of use, so you're doing good going with that braking system and premium tow bar.

@AndrewN Thanks for your prompt reply to Andrew So does the Blue Ox portable brake system turn on the brake lights of the Ram when the brakes on the RV are applied.

@RobinK You're welcome. And yes, even if your Blue Ox Patriot isn’t actively pressing the pedal, your Ram’s brake lights will still come on whenever the RV’s do. That’s exactly what the Roadmaster 4-Diode Wiring Kit handles - it ties your truck’s tail and brake lights to the RV’s signal line through those one-way diodes, so the two stay perfectly in sync. When the Patriot DOES push down on the truck's brake pedal, it’ll also activate the truck’s brake switch the normal way - so in either case, you’ll have working brake lights behind the RV.
