Flat Towing 2006 Jeep Liberty

Updated 10/08/2025 | Published 10/05/2025

Question:

Hello My neighbor has a BX7365 Blue Ox that they do not use any more and it’s in good shape. I have a 2023 Forest River Sunseeker 2350le class C motorhome on a Chevy3500 chassis and want to tow my 2006 Jeep Liberty across the USA. Is it best to purchase this Blue Ox and a baseplate or do you recommend a complete kit for my Liberty. I have also been thinking if its best to use a tow dolly?? Please let me know your recommendations. Sincerely Todd

Hey Todd! You can get the BX7365 from your neighbor if it is in good shape. However, you should probably have it serviced by Blue Ox to make sure it is in good working order. If it is older than 8 years they recommend replacing it. Looking at the owner's manual, dolly towing is not possible so flat towing is the only option for a 4WD. For a complete setup I recommend the following:

-Blue Ox Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # BX1122

-Blue Ox Alpha 2 Non-Binding Tow Bar # BX7380 (if you decide to get a new one)

-Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-15267

-Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/ Hydraulic Brakes # SM99251

-Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400

You may also need a high-low adapter to keep your setup level. I attached a help article further down on this page which explains how to measure and choose the right adapter. The bracket height of the Blue Ox base plate is 19" so you only need to measure the hitch on your Sunseeker.

Any interesting stops planned during your upcoming cross country trip?
