this product help keep all things in order and I have not had any issues with wiring

Roy

1/22/2018

I had to upgrade my fifth wheel to a motorhome do to my wifes disability how ever every thing worked out just fine fo the short time I used it.

by:

Watch how you wire this up but once I started following the directions it worked perfectly. Would have liked a better waterproof box for wires but seems to holding up to the water.

by:

Would not recommend this package at all. The main cable (vehicle 7 prong cable) had all the wires miss attached, IE the brown was not the running light but the constant, yellow was constant etc, the only wire hooked up correctly was the white ground.

So during installation I assumed the harness would be correct, hooked up to my truck and not have a massive short in my truck due to the improper back feeding and drain. I had to bring another vehicle up and trace every wire individually with a test light to wire the trailer correctly. Good news, after 5 hours I was able to rewire my trailer, bad news I no longer have a truck to tow it with due to the short. I can not even begin to imagine the undertaking of now having to find the short in my truck.

Would recommend against purchasing this product at all costs, you're better off building one on your own harness which I guess I should have done!

I can't say enough good things about the staff at etrailer. They helped me pick out the correct items to install disc brakes on my boat trailer and the technical staff was extremely helpful in helping me better understand how to perform the installation. This was the first time I ever install a new brake system and their help enabled me to easily and successfully complete the installation. A+ for the product quality and for etrailer staff!

by:

The color coding on the wiring block does not match the wires in the pigtail …. Be sure to test when plugged into your vehicle

Everything I have purchased from you had been the highest of quality. Very quick delivery. I rebuilt my boat trailer with your part and I couldn't be happier

  • Wiring Diagram for Installing Junction Box Upgrade to Utility Wiring Colors
The only version of the etrailer wiring 7-way upgrade kit part # HS381-9000 that we offer is this one that has the RV wiring colors. The best solution I can provide to help with that is a wiring diagram that has both color setups for you to compare and use when installing this.

Actually the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit # HS381-9000 that you referenced comes with the needed ring terminals so you would not need to provide any. The two sizes though are 3/8 and 3/16.

  • Junction Box and Connector for Trailer Wiring
I have attached a diagram of the standard 7-way wiring hook up for 5th wheel, travel trailers, and campers. This should help you to identify which wires should be running what function on your trailer. To be completely sure which wire is which you'll need to test each circuit to identify their individual functions. You'll need to use a power source, like a car battery then put the ground to the negative and each of the other wires to the positive one by one. Whatever function activates...

  • Upgrading 4-Way of Trailer to 7-Way to Wire Battery for Powering Trailer Interior/Exterior Lights
For what you are looking for the standard solution that is tried and true is to install a vehicle battery in the trailer to power the lighting of your trailer. What you'll want to do for the trailer wiring is install the junction box 7-way kit # HS381-9000 this is specifically designed for upgrading a trailer like yours from a 4-way to a 7-way. If you check out the picture I attached you'll see what the junction box does basically. The ring terminals on the bottom side of the posts are...

  • How to Wire a Car Dolly for Electric Brakes
If you will be adding electric drum brakes to your car dolly then you will need to install a 7-way trailer connector. For this, I recommend using the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit part # HS381-9000. I have attached a photo which displays how the wires will need to be ran on the trailer connector. In addition to the new trailer wiring harness you will also need braking assemblies, hubs/drums, a breakaway kit, and a brake controller. If you would like for me to recommend any of these...

  • Is There an Adapter for Lance Truck Bed Camper to Standard 7-Way Trailer Connector
The older Lance truck bed campers use a proprietary plug and we don't have an adapter for this. We don't carry it but Lance does offer a matching vehicle side trailer connector for this but I recommend just converting the trailer connector on the camper to the standard 7-Way using the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit part # HS381-9000. Please note, during installation you need to match wires by function, not color.

  • Can You Change 6-way Connector to 7-way To Power 12v Fan In Trailer
It sounds like you have a solid plan! To power your 12v fan I recommend replacing your 6-way connector with the etrailer Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit w/ Junction Box and RV Style Connector # HS381-9000 which gives you a nice junction box to make all of your wiring connections, and will allow you to run power wires from the 12v pin of the 7-way connector to your 12v fan and accessory lights. Keep in mind that this circuit is not made to power too many things at once, so if you have...

  • How To Replace a 4-Way Trailer Connector with a 7-Way Trailer Connector
The best option we have for you to upgrade the 4-way trailer connector on your trailer to a 7-way trailer connector is with the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit part # HS381-9000. Once you have this all you need to do is run the wires from the trailer lights to the junction box and then from the junction box to the trailer connector. • Wire Function to Replace a Trailers 6-Way Connector with a 7-Way
Are you trying to replace a 6-way on a trailer with a 7-way connector, like part # HS381-9000? Traditionally, the white, brown, green, and yellow wires are as you listed them. Then the other 2 wires are for electric brakes and a 12 volt auxiliary circuit. However, wire coloring is not always standard and can be very unreliable. Instead I recommend testing each circuit for function. Use a 12 volt battery and connect the negative pole to a good ground and then connect each wire, one...

  • Recommended Junction Box For Renovating A 1973 Airstream Travel Trailer
It sounds to me like your 1973 Airstream is in need of a junction box, for this I recommend the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit w/ Junction Box and RV Style Connector # HS381-9000. This junction box will allow you to easily tie in the wiring from your trailer's brakes and lights to plug into the 7-way connection on your tow vehicle. It is going to come with ring terminals included so that you can easily attach said wires to the corresponding wires in the junction box.

  • Connecting a Vehicle with a 7-Way Trailer Connector to a Trailer with a 6-Way
Replacing the 7-way connector on the trailer is the best route. This way you'll know exactly how it's wired. I recommend testing each wire by connecting it to a 12 volt battery as you're making the connections. It also may be easier to make the connections using a junction box and out # HS381-9000 kit.

  • How Does Trailer Battery, Breakaway Battery, and Trailer Jack Wire
We do not have any wiring diagrams that have all of the things you mentioned. Basically all of those accessories would need to run to the 12 volt accessory circuit of your trailer wiring so it would be a matter of running that circuit to all of them. The easiest way to do that would be with a junction box like the # HS381-9000 which would give you the ability to run all of the circuits to the same post using ring terminals that are included. You'd then want to run the ground of each accessory...

  • How To Hook Up Two Pin Brake Plug on Jayco Trailer
I do have an option for you but the only way for you to tow this trailer and have everything work would be to switch from the odd two plug setup to a standard one plug, 7-way trailer connector. This can be done easily with a junction box like the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit part # HS381-9000. I am not familiar with the plug you have shown but I'm fairly confident there is no adapter for this.

  • How Does Trailer Battery Normally Wire to Trailer
You'd only need to run the battery to your trailer wiring if the goal was to put a maintenance charge on the battery as you tow. If you only wanted to power accessories with the trailer it would not be needed and you'd just have to run the trailer accessories to the battery and you'd be done. A 4-way connector would not have a 12 volt charge circuit that you could run to a battery anyway and you'd have to convert that to a 7-way with the 7-way conversion kit # HS381-9000.

  • How to Adapter 5-Pin Round Trailer Connector to 7-way Connector on Tow Vehicle
The 5-pin round connector is kind of an oddball that isn't often used as a trailer connector, therefore there isn't an adapter available. Honestly, your best bet would be to replace the existing 5-pin connector on your trailer with a 7-way, which would be pretty simple to do. You'd start by determining which circuit on your 5-pin serves which function. In order to convert a trailer from a 4 or 5-way flat to a 7-way round you will need to use the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit w/ Junction Box part # HS381-9000. The reason for this is because 4-way or 5-way flat trailer connector only carry circuits for stop/turn, running, and sometimes reverse lights. The 7-way has all of these circuits as well a brake output and a battery charge line.
