Why Does the Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Custom Wiring Harness Not Use Aluminum Screws?

Published 09/25/2025

Question:

Why doesnt this come with aluminum screws instead of steel ? There would be less of a chance of it comming loose having to use the rubber/plastic s. Aluminum screws to aluminum truck bed.

Hey James, welcome back. Galling and low shear strength are why the Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Custom Wiring Harness w/ 7-Pole Connector for Aluminum Beds item # C57008 uses stainless steel bolts and rubber well nuts instead of aluminum screws. Stainless steel bolts are high strength and are resistant to corrosion. The rubber well nuts prevent any galvanic corrosion.

I have linked an installation video below so you can see how to get the Curt item # C57008 installed in your 2018 F-150.

You show self tapping screws also. Do you still use the insert with them?

@James Don't use those. They aren't meant for an F-150. The item # C57008 fits other trucks without aluminum beds.
