Question:
I have a 2018 Chevy Spark with manual trans that I want to flat tow behind a 2019 Jayco Greyhawk 29MV RV. I want to use the Patriot portable brake system. I want to charge the Spark battery while towing. I want to disconnect the negative battery terminal per Spark flat tow instructions. I want to use bulb and socket tail lights on the Spark. What parts do I need and how do I wire it to be able to power the brake system, charge the battery, run the tail lights, and have the negative battery terminal disconnected simultaneously.

Hey Steve, the first thing you'd need to flat tow your 2018 Chevy Spark is a base plate kit like the part # BX1725.
In addition to the base plates, you will also need a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking to flat tow your vehicle. One of the most popular compatible tow bars is the Blue Ox Avail # BX7420 which comes with safety cables. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.
For a bulb and socket kit that fits we have the part # RM-155 which we have installed on a Spark just like yours.
For a battery disconnect that allows you to charge battery at same time we have the part # RM-766.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

Hey Steve, how did everything come together when you set up your Chevy Spark for flat towing with the Blue Ox and Roadmaster parts? It’d be great to hear how the battery disconnect and charging setup worked with the Patriot brake system. Your update could make it easier for the next person setting up a similar tow.
