Hello Marti,

I am sorry to hear that your Saris Door County Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - Electric Lift - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # SAR42RR is no longer going down.

First, make sure the rack is actually getting power. This model needs a proper 7-way connection from your vehicle, and if that plug isn’t fully seated or the vehicle fuse for accessory power has blown, the lift motor won’t respond. Sometimes the fix is as simple as checking the plug and fuse.

Another easy one to miss is the key switch. The rack has a keyed power safety, and if the key isn’t turned to the right position, the system just won’t budge. While you’re at it, double-check for any safety interlocks too, the Door County is designed not to move if something’s out of place, like the tilt lock not engaged or bikes not secured.

It’s also worth making sure nothing is physically blocking the rack. Straps, pedals, or even part of the rack itself can get pinched in the mechanism. If the motor is humming but nothing’s happening, it could be overloaded, these racks are designed for two e-bikes, but if they’re extra heavy, sometimes the lift struggles. A quick inspection of the wiring for loose or corroded connections can also help rule out electrical hiccups.

If the “up” button works but “down” doesn’t, that might point to a control switch issue. On the other hand, if nothing works at all, it could be a power or motor problem. The good news is the manual explains a few reset steps, like making sure the rack is fully in one position before it will move again. Sometimes the system just needs to “re-find” its home position.

When you press the “down” button, do you hear any motor sound at all, or is it completely silent?

Hey Marti, what ended up happening with your Saris Door County bike rack—did you get the lift to go down again? Knowing what fixed it could really help others who run into the same issue. Your update could make it easier for the next person troubleshooting their rack.

Hi Kate, In your above response you state, " the manual explains a few reset steps". I have manual #4800, but I don't see any "reset steps" listed. Could you please direct me? Finally, if my key pad is defective, can a replacement key pad be ordered? Thank You for your help!!

@PaulW Interesting, I thought for sure it was listed in there. My apologies. Here are the steps you will want to follow to reset: 1. Ensure the rack is unloaded – remove bikes so the lift isn’t under strain. 2. Verify power supply – confirm the rack is plugged into a working 7-way vehicle connector or the included wall adapter (depending on your setup). 3. Press and hold both control buttons (UP and DOWN) simultaneously for 10 seconds until the lift beeps or the LED flashes. 4. This forces the internal controller to recalibrate its zero position. 5. Release both buttons, then press DOWN to fully lower the rack until it stops on its own. 6. Press UP to raise it completely, this re-teaches the controller both travel limits. Once movement completes, test normal operation again. Please let me know how it goes =)

@KateF Hi Kate Your prompt and detailed response is APPRECIATED! My rack will still not move. It's about one inch from the full up position and froze there. Therefore, even with the key in the closed (off) position the rack beeps - apparently because it's not in the full up position. As you suggested, I tried depressing the UP and DOWN buttons for 10 seconds, etc. but no luck. Might you have any other suggestions? I really appreciate your help!!

@PaulW I reached out to my friends at Saris to see if they have any other tricks to try, as soon as I get a response I will forward it over to you. I asked them about keypad as well as I do not see one on our site.
