Hello Jeff,

I’m sorry, but we do not currently have an install video for the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter w/ 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector and Install Kit # C59496 on a 2024 Toyota Prius Prime. If you are near Wentzville, MO, we would be happy to complete the installation for you so we can capture the video footage.

Since we don’t have a guide for this vehicle yet, you’ll need to test the wires on your Prius by using something like a Hook Probe Circuit Tester # PTW2993 to determine the correct installation points. If you’d prefer to have a professional handle the work, we do have a dealer locator tool to help you find an installer near you (they will charge for the installation). I’ve attached it here so you can see who is in your area.

What are you planning on using the wiring for? Light towing, or accessory?

Hi there, light towing. I do see that a wiring kit is available for the 2024 Prius, but noticed it is not Plug & Play, meaning it will require, like you said, the testing of wires to know which to tap into. In looking at these wires, I noticed they are very small and I do not want to attempt to tap into them, as this would potentially compromise the integrity of these (22?) gauge wires, which could cause warranty issues. Do you know when a plug & play version of the available wiring harness might become available? Ie., is there a typical time frame that it takes before such a revision to the available harnesses takes place? 1 year, 2 years... maybe 3? As far as I understand, the wiring of the Prius Prime/PHEV changed with the 2023 version, and is the same for the 2024, and likely the 2025. There appears to be a plug and play harness for the 2022. Since we are in year 3 of the Prius Prime/PHEV wiring upgrade, might a plug & play harness be just around the corner?

@Jeff I definitely understand why you would want a plug-n-play, I would look for the same option. Most likely they will have one in the future, however there is not a huge demand for trailer wiring for a Prius so it is not very high on the priority list. I wish we got a heads up on when they will have one one, but we do not know until it is released. The Curt # C59496 wiring harness for the Toyota Prius Prime is built with automotive-grade wiring that’s sized specifically for the current loads it’s rated to handle (6 amps on the tail light circuit and 3 amps on the stop/turn circuits) so you can feel confident that it’s more than up to the job. As for your vehicle’s warranty, you’re protected under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. This federal law makes it clear that a car manufacturer can’t void your warranty just because you’ve installed an aftermarket part like this trailer wiring harness. The only time they can deny coverage is if they can show that the harness itself directly caused the problem in question. So in short, your warranty stays intact, and you can add this harness knowing it’s safe, reliable, and won’t jeopardize your coverage. Our Dealer Locator is filled with shops across the U.S. that have active Dealer Accounts with us. These are companies we’ve vetted to ensure they’re legitimate and ones we feel confident recommending to get the job done. As I mentioned earlier, their services will come at a cost. I truly wish I had better news on a plug-and-play option, but since the 2023 model hasn’t been released yet, it will likely be some time before that becomes available.
