Replacement AC System for a Dometic Penguin II 11,500 Btu Air Conditioner

Updated 09/12/2025 | Published 08/22/2025

Question:

Hi... I have a Hymer Aktiv with a Dometic Penguin II 11,500 btu non-ducted air conditioner with Dometic wall thermostat. What would be a suitable like-for-like easy to install replacement air conditioner to update the current Dometic low-profile unit? Thanks...

Hey Jeff, thanks for the information! To replace your Dometic Penguin II AC you'll need to replace the entire system. We've found recently that the harnesses and connectors from different manufacturer's don't work well with each other and you'll void the warranty by mixing and matching them. Additionally, the new R32 refrigerant, which is far more efficient, also makes AC components made before 2025 incompatible with the newer compliant units.

For a replacement AC system, I recommend the Advent Air Low Profile RV Air Conditioner System item # ADV52SR in Black or item # ADV65SR in white. These are 13,500 btu low profile AC systems that include an air box, start capacitor, and thermostat. The AC measures 31" long x 24-15/16" wide x 10-1/8" tall so it'll work great on the roof of your Hymer Aktiv and you'll be able to use your existing wiring and cutout.

@JeffS That's a real nice setup. Let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns about a replacement AC and why my answer to practically the same question was so dramatically different less than 18 months later. There's been some big changes with RV ACs.
