Is Trailer Mate Hitch Receiver For 2021 Crosstrek Easy To Install In Driveway DIY?
Published 08/18/2025 >
Question:
I’m a DIYer. How tough is it to install this hitch on my 2021 Crosstrek in the driveway? I'd rather not get it if I need to take to a shop to weld or something.

Rob, the trailer hitch receiver from Trailer Mate # TMT94FR for your 2021 Crosstrek is a driveway-friendly project (no welding required). You’ll remove the rubber plugs from the frame rails, fishwire the bolts and spacers into place, enlarge the access holes (a step-up drill bit is best), and torque everything down to 110 ft-lbs. A torque wrench and 3/4 inch socket are the main tools you’ll need. Most folks knock it out in under 2 hours.
Do you have a buddy to help hold the hitch, or are you planning to prop it on a jack?
