Is 2 Inch Or 1-1/4" Hitch Better For 2025 Subaru Crosstrek?
Published 08/18/2025 >
Question:
Is the 2-inch receiver overkill on a 25 Crosstrek, or should I go with a smaller 1-1/4” hitch? Not towing trailers with it.

Alan, the 2-inch receiver is the smarter choice. Most bike racks and cargo carriers are built for 2-inch these days, so you won’t be hunting for adapters. (also, most adapters cut the capacity in half so that's not ideal)
The Trailer Mate # TMT94FR gives you the 2" size without adding bulk, and it’s still within the 2025 Crosstrek’s modest towing/tongue limits. Do you already have accessories that are 2-inch, or are you buying new?
Crosstrek owners, have you found 2-inch to be the more versatile option?
