How Much Taller is Weigh Safe Safe Load Ball Compared to B&W Ball

Updated 09/14/2025 | Published 08/09/2025

Question:

I have a 2025 F350 Ford Super Duty DRW with the factory puck option, and I am using the BandW Gooseneck Ball which I believe is taller than the Curt ball you mentioned in another reply. I am towing a Brinkley Z3100 which is almost perfectly level when hooked up with my existing setup. I do not need the weigh function of this ball, but I am looking for a taller ball to move my camper further away from the top rail of my truck. I have an unusual parking situation that is causing the hardware on the bottom edge of the camper to gouge the plastic bedrail cap of my truck when backing into my driveway. How much taller is the Weigh Safe ball than the BandW Gooseneck ball? What are the ramifications of towing with the front of my fifth wheel potentially 2-3 inches higher than the back due to the height of this ball?

Hi Kelly, nice setup! The Weigh Safe Safe Load Ball # WS74ZR measures 8-3/8" from the base with an overall height of 11". The same measurement on the B&W # BWGNXA2061 is 5-3/4" so it will sit approximately 2-5/8" taller once installed. More than likely that will be enough to get your the clearance you need when parking.

Any big trips coming up with your Brinkley?

Hi Kelly, did the Weigh Safe ball give you the clearance you needed when parking your Brinkley? I'm asking because it could help others with similar parking challenges.

@RobinH Our next trip is planned for the middle of October, so I have not had a chance to tow with the new weigh safe ball. After receiving the ball, I was able to confirm the difference between the two is 2 5/8", as you said. Do you have thoughts on my second question, as to whether the extra height will cause any problems when towing since my fifth wheel will no longer be level front to back? Thanks, KellyF

@KellyF sorry I missed that part. We had some dimensions on another picture that looked off so I went and measured the ball in our warehouse. After measuring and making the diagram I forgot to address the other question. It can potentially cause sway and poor steering control if too much weight is shifted off the vehicle and onto the trailer axles. I would hook it up and take a look before your trip. You can offset that by adding something like the Correct Track # RR55QX to extend your hangers and lift the trailer to level it out.
