Help With Adjusting Pin Box Height When Switching to Gen-Y Gooseneck Adapter
Published 04/05/2024 >
Question:
Hello, I recently purchased a Gen-Y hitch from e-trailer. I believe the model number is Item GY58GR it had a different number on the box ???45AL. I initially mounted the hitch up as high as I could on the RV, and placed 3 bolts in front, and 3 bolts in the rear, on each side. However, after a test ride I noticed I do not have the necessary clearance between the RV and my 2021 GMC truck bed roughly 4 inches. The original King Pin hitch only had 4 on each side. What is the recommended number of bolts for the Gen-y? I need to the hitch 1 notch, possibly 2 to get the amount of clearance Im seeking 6 or 7 inches. Can I it to notches, and use only 2 in front, and 2 in back, on each side?

So the number GH-8045AL you are seeing is the Gen-Y part number for our # GY58GR. So everything is okay with that. As far as the height and the mounting holes it can vary so much from camper and vehicle that I always say it is best to just ensure you have the clearance you need above the bed rails on your 2021 GMC Sierra. You really want to see 6" of clearance and as you are at 4" you are going to want to move the pin box down a set of holes as they are spaced on 2" vertical increments. You only need the 4 bolts to hold it on. Gen-Y put in more holes to give more adjustability due to the fact that bed sides keep getting taller and several people are having to use adapters with the different mounts in newer trucks so the additional holes just provides more adjustability.
