Troubleshooting Red Blinking Light On Blue Ox Patriot 2 Braking System

Updated 09/24/2025 | Published 07/21/2025

Question:

Hello, Our blue ox patriot 2 during the set up phase goes to a red blinking light and clicks. Sounds like the control arm can’t move. Is there anyway to resolve this? It powers on, but after pushing the “setup” button, it clicks and the power light flashes red. Thank you for your time.

Hello Brandon, thanks for reaching out. I have heard of this before and the red light a failure to calibrate is likley due to the positioning of the unit and too much pressure on the brake pedal. Try moving the seat back and moving the brake unit farther away from the pedal. The seat should not put any pressure on the back of the brake unit as this can put pressure on the sensor and give you more errors. Ensure the brake “Claw” is securely attached to the brake pedal for a good grip so that it can't jostle around when you hit a bump in the road. Adjusting the legs/feet can also help with this.

The red light could also mean low input voltage. If the battery is low and giving off less than 10v it can cause the unit to not work.

Check that and let me know if that fixes the issue.

What vehicle are you using this in?

Hey Brandon, did adjusting the seat and brake unit position help resolve the issue with your Blue Ox Patriot 2? I'm curious because it might help others facing a similar problem. Let me know how it goes!

Jesse, Same issue as Brandon. To check the back pressure, I lifted the unit high enough to miss contact with the seat and it still flashes red. When it first powers on the unit flashes alternate blue and green lights
