Does Install of etrailer Hitch on 2023 Honda Passport Require Rear Fascia Replacement

Updated 07/15/2025 | Published 07/12/2025

Question:

Im looking to install this hitch on a 2023 Passport Trailsport. My understanding is that this model requires a different rear valance panel for use with a trailer hitch. Is that the case with this particular hitch, as it add significant cost and installation time and would be a different color than the current one. Additionally, would this hitch handle the weight of a bike carrier and a cargo basket? Im assuming yes based on the tongue weight rating but just want to check. Thanks! Sean

Hey Sean, the install of the etrailer hitch part # e44AR does not require replacing the lower fascia with a different one. That seems to be the case for the OEM hitch which sits up higher but not this hitch which fits below the rear bumper. This can definitely handle the weight of a bike rack or cargo carrier as well. Do you have those racks already?

Hi Jameson. I do not have the racks yet. I need a locking bike carrier and cargo carrier that can be attached at the same time. I am contemplating one on the hitch and one on the roof but I'd like both to be on the hitch. I have had multiple Yakima carriers of both types in the past.

@SeanB Since you mentioned Yakima we have the locking EXO part # Y54ZR which is a bike rack and cargo carrier that fit this hitch both at same time and can swing away for complete rear cargo area access. Or we have a version with an enclosed carrier part # Y34ZR.
