Replacement Leaf Springs for 20 Year Old Tandem Axle Trailer that Weighs 14k

Updated 08/07/2025 | Published 07/02/2025

Question:

I have a 20yr old 5th wheel camper. Tandem axle, 14,000lb when loaded. I want to replace the 4 axle springs and hardware. What load rate springs do I need…I’m thinking 4000 lb springs? These seem all sacked out. Thanks.

Hey Joel, do you know how long your current springs are? With that additional piece of info I can help you pick out a spring that would replace what you have as easily as possible. For example, the part # DX74XR is for an 8k rated axle and has a 4k rating per spring like you mentioned and it has a length of 24-7/8 inches which is pretty common for springs of this rating but I'd still check.

With that said if your plan was to replace all of the hangers and equalizers at same time just going with the part # APT8 would replace all of that and wouldn't require you to match up the lengths of anything since it would all be brand new.

Hey Joel, did you get a chance to measure the length of your current springs? I'm curious if the spring option I mentioned worked out for your camper. Let me know how it went, as it could help others in a similar situation!
