SumoSprings Kit Recommendation for a Single Axle Boat Trailer and a 1,500 lb Boat
Updated 07/21/2025 | Published 06/29/2025 >
Question:
Hello, Im looking for Sumo springs for a single-axle boat trailer. The trailer itself weighs 1,000 pounds, and the boat and motor combined weigh 1,500 pounds. The 1 3/4 leaf springs are under the 2 square axle. There is 5 3/4 of space between the leaf spring and the frame. Do you have a solution? Thanks

Hey Carlos, thanks for reaching out!
Sounds like you're needing the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs w/ Line Relocation Bracket # TSS-106-40.
It might seem like the specs you referenced don't quite match up, but you only told me the weight of the trailer and the boat - I'm sure the axle is rated for a little more than that. And the spacing you have, I'm guessing was taken while the boat was loaded whereas the spacing SumoSprings talks about is with the trailer unloaded. So, you're actually good on both ends!
Was there anything you're needing to upgrade/replace while you're at it?

Hello Jon, Unfortunately, the bracket did not fit my boat trailer. The bracket sits on the leaf spring just like it should, but the long side mount U-bolt hits the leaf spring U-bolts as if the long Sumo U-bolts are not wide enough, and the square axle blocks the bracket mount holes anyway. The frame is 2" wide, so if there is a spring that I can mount to the top and the spring points downward, that should work.
