Can I Use A Dc to DC Charger To Keep My Trailer Battery From Draining?

Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 06/29/2025

Question:

I currently have a 36ft travel trailer with residential refrigerator so when I travel I have to run an inverter. On my 4 and 6 hour trips the battery goes dead along the way. I was wondering if there was a dc to dc charger that would be compatible with my setup or, if I would be better off to just add a second battery to get me a little further down the road. Thanks in advance.

Hello Jeramie, thanks for reaching out. Using a DC to DC charger will absolutely help with this. The Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Trailer Battery Charger # RED36TR is what I recommend for keeping the trailer battery charged.

You could add a second battery but those can be expensive. Adding the charger is a much more affordable solution.

What type of battery do you have? Just curious

Hey Jeramie, did you decide to go with the DC to DC charger for your travel trailer? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you, as it could really help others who are dealing with similar battery issues on their trips.
