What is Towing Capacity of Chevy Equinox with Draw Tite Hitch Installed
Updated 06/23/2025 | Published 06/17/2025 >
Question:
The frame where these trailer hitches attach is very thin. The hitch itself is nice and thick material. So will that thickness reinforce the frame mounting point so that it doesnt bend or distort under a load? The load is concentrated on that part of the 1.14mm sheet metal under the heads of the three carriage bolts. The owners manual says the towing capacity is 1500 lbs on my model. After checking out many reviews I only found a few concerned about the tow rating. Thanks

Hey Jerry, you do need to stay under the towing capacity of your 2022 Chevy Equinox even though the Draw Tite hitch part # 76419 that fits it does have a higher capacity. This is because the hitch is designed to be as strong as possible but you do have to always abide by the lowest rated component in your towing setup as the overall capacity. What are you wanting to tow?

I will be occasionally towing my Cub cadet lawn tractor. 5X8 utility trailer weights 900 lbs. And the Cub might weigh over 700? I'm going to check out the weights at the local grain elevator scales. JlW
