What Bearings do I Need for My Rockwell Trailer Axle that is Rated for 3,500 Pounds?

Updated 06/12/2025 | Published 06/09/2025

Question:

Hi, i’m trying to identify the correct wheel bearings for my trailer. The axle is a 2013 3500 rockwell Spdt3585070. But its not a straight axle, it has leaf springs and then the hub/spindles are on some bracket. I can send pictures. The bolt pattern is 5x4.5” Any chance you could help me identify what axle I have and the correct bearings to purchase thank you so much

Hello Christian,

Thanks for all the information on your trailer, it is most helpful!

Since you have a 3,500 pound with tapered spindles you will need the Hub Bearing Kit for Lippert, Dexter, and AL-KO Axles - 3,500 lb with #84 Spindle # BK2-100. It will come with inner bearing L68149, and outer bearing L44649. The nice thing about this kit is that it is definitely more cost effective than buying the bearings separately, but it also comes with new races, great seal, tang washer, and cotter pin.

If you do not have some grease for packing in the new bearings, make sure you grab some LubriMatic Prime Guard High Temperature Wheel Bearing Grease - Red - 16-oz Can # L11380.

What kind of trailer are you working on?

Wow!! Great! Im going to order them today! Being that you’re so helpful what are the chances that you can also source the electric brake add on kit Kit four the above mentioned axle for the above-mentioned axle? I see the kit with just the brakes. I don’t see a kit with the drums and brake kit. Thanks again looking forward to hearing back from you.

@ChristianG You are not able to find a kit because we do not have one put together. You will need to purchase the etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left/Right Hand Assemblies - 3.5K # AKEBRK-35-SA, and (2) of the Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 3.5K Axles # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K, if you do not have the easy grease spindle with the zerk fitting, you can save a couple of bucks by ordering the # AKHD-545-35-K instead. Are you adding electric brakes, or just swapping them out?
