How Often Should Trailer Bearings and Seals be Replaced

Updated 03/20/2019 | Published 03/19/2019

Question:

At what point of time does it truly make sense to change-out a trailers bearings and seals to new ones? Is this part of regular maintenance?

We recommend that you pull the hubs off your trailer to inspect and repack the bearings every 12 months or 12,000 miles. If at this time the bearings still appear in good condition then there is no need to replace them. There isn't a general rule as to how often they should be replaced as you really only need to do this when damage occurs (check for nicks in the roller or dents in the roller cage, lines, spots, or discoloration of the metal during inspection).

Usually the grease seal though will be damaged enough from the process of removing it during your annual inspection that it will need to be replaced. This means you will typically need to replace the seal every 12 months/12,000 miles.

I have attached a great article on this very process that you can also take a look at. I have also included a link that will take you to our selection of replacement bearings and seals if needed.
