Question:

2018 Hyundai sonata currently does not have a hitch...that I would like to go with the Hollywood Racks Destination Bike Rack for 4 Bikes - 2 Hitches - Frame Mount. What are your recommendations?

Hey Sarah,

The only hitch options we have for a 2018 Sonata are 1-1/4" trailer hitches. The # HR4000 is for 2" hitches so that is not going to work on that vehicle.

For a hitch on that car I recommend # C11402, this is a Curt hitch with a 200lb tongue weight capacity. That is the highest capacity for that vehicle. you could use the Hollywood Destination with this hitch using an adapter, but any adapter used is going to reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50%. That would only allow you to carry possibly 2 bikes.

You are going to want to go with a bike rack for 1-1/4" hitches if you are needing one for 4 bikes. I recommend # TH9056, Thule Camber Bike Rack, for your vehicle. It is going to fit your 1-1/4" hitch and be able to carry for bikes without effecting the capacity of the hitch. This is going to be your best option if you are needing to carry 4 bikes.

Are you wanting a rack for all 4 bikes, or would you be fine using one for 2 bikes? Its all dependent on the capacity of the vehicle which turns out to be that 200lbs. If you are needing all 4 bike slots the options get slimmer but if you just need a rack for 2 bikes we're going to be able find you more options.

Yes, I need option for 4 bikes (noE bikes). Almost always 3 bikes and sometimes4. Secondly, I also need roof bars or rack for 2018 Hyundai sonata SEL. Most likely carrying a cargo type bag to help with space in the car. Do you have any aluminum racks? Or maybe not needed if just carrying a cargo carrier/bag? IF I wanted it to carry paddle board/kayak, would I need bars installed and likely support bar option to add? Thank you for the info!!

@Nicks That Thule # TH9056 is what I would recommend for your bike rack for your vehicle. If you are just looking to use a cargo bag on the roof of the car, a roof rack is not needed. You can use something like our RIghtline cargo bag # RL100S30 in your roof as it is. If you want to carry a kayak though, I recommend getting a roof rack and kayak carrier. As a good roof rack option for your vehicle I recommend the Yakima # Y33CB. This is a great aluminum rack that will be able carry that kayak with something like the kayak carrier # e98878. A support bar you not be needed with the integrated extra tie down straps but I do always recommend checking your vehicles roof capacity to make sure you are not exceeding it.
