Perfect for light-duty towing, this custom, vehicle trailer hitch receiver features fully welded, gloss powder coated steel construction. Drawbar sold separately.Installation of the Curt trailer hitch receiver for my 2020 Kia Optima SX was very similar to the video shown on etrailer.com for the 2018 Optima. The main difference was the dual exhaust on my model. I elected to remove the exhaust hanger brackets from the frame verses pushing the rubber off the hangers. I had some difficulty reinstalling the exhaust brackets to the frame as they were binding against the hitch surfaces even after several attempts to adjust hitch frame and exhaust hangers. I removed some material from the metal brackets of the exhaust hangers by grinding and they seated properly, (see arrows in photo). I’m no spring chicken so the installation took me about 4 hours, excluding beer breaks, and I was working off the ground. I didn’t have to remove or trim the underbody panel or trim the muffler heat shields for this Curt hitch installation, (see photo). The most time consuming part of the job was filing the frame holes for spacer block/carriage bolt installation into the frame. I am very happy with the look and basic installation ease of this hitch. Just got done installing on our 2016 Sonata Hybrid Limited. Looks great. Installation video was a huge help. Couple of pictures attached for those that have a hybrid (vs what is depicted in the video). One with the exhaust lowered and all shields removed & ready for the hitch (before holes were enlarged) and two of the installed hitch - from below and behind.
Couple of hints and comments -
1. You will need to enlarge the hole for the bolts to about 1 1/8". Our step drill didn't cut it - had to go heavy duty and since our largest heavy duty bit was 1", had to "wobble" it a bit to get large enough hole. Also, steel is tough so wasn't nearly as easy to drill as the video would have you think!
2. Still not sure why the instructions (written and video) have you remove the center plastic underbody panel only to put it back (with some difficulty/care so as not to damage all the tabs) once the hitch is installed. Perhaps needed on some models but didn't appear to be necessary for ours! (the plastic underbody panel on the driver side did need to be trimmed to fit around the hitch)
3. The heat shield needed some "adjustments" to get it back on over the hitch. We got it to bend a bit as needed so it could be bolted back up with careful use of a bit of 2x4 and a mallet!
Overall appears to be well designed hitch and was not too difficult to install (thank goodness we had the use of a car lift!)
Tara F - 06/27/2019Great hitch. Installed relatively easily. Looks good and is built very well. Highly recommend this hitch.
The installation is pretty easy, the only problem I had was with the clearance of the mounting bracket for the exhaust hanger. The bracket had to be modified in the corner to clear the notch on the hitch. Even after trying to re center the hitch the clearance was not sufficient. Maybe the off set of the mounting holes on the hitch has be changed . Other than that the hitch looks great.
This hitch is as easy to install as the product description says. I had it installed in about an hour alone laying near my garage floor. This is the third hitch I’ve installed on my vehicles from etrailer.com. The descriptions are accurate and the videos are extremely helpful. On my 2018 Kia Optima i found it easier to remove the back exhaust hanger to get the hitch loose mounted.
Quality of the hitch is great and installation was pretty easy. The only part that slowed me down was the purchase of a step drill bit to enlarge the holes in the car's frame to fit washers through for bolt attachment. 2017 Sonata hybrid.
Excellent quality trailer hitch receiver!!! I'm glad I purchased everything from here for both my vehicles!!! It's only to pull a small mc trailer but absolutely no issues and no complaints from me!!!
Watched etrailer's videos online which helped me choose between this and the Draw-tire brand for my application. Ordered it and it shipped fast. Very good installation instructions but also the video installing instructions on their webpage that I watched before it even showed up. All and all it took me 1 hour to install. I will say I also have a lift and a shop so that probably sped the process up a bit. But from order to delivery it was a good experience all together and I will definitely use them to order the hitch for my wives van.
Steven R - 06/17/2020I own a Hyundai Sonata and found myself needing to lug kids bikes around as well as my own. The bike rack I found required a Class-1 hitch which is hard to come by for my car. I found one on eTrailer and it has been a year and still works great.
My car is not made to have a hitch so you have to make some modifications but the instructions were excellent and had all the necessary parts. The one thing I will say is you definitely need a grinder or whatever to cut the hole out for the rear mounting points. We only had a dremel on hand and went through several disks and added an extra 60-90 minutes to the job (ugh).
The only drawback is a bike rack can scrape on a steep driveway especially if it’s carrying weight, but it’s also a sedan so I’m not knocking the product.
The purchase was easy. Customer service was great at time of purchase and install was a breeze. Use it all the time with a bike rack.
Seems like a good product overall. I read the instructions and watched the video before and during. I had previously installed a hitch on a different vehicle. I don’t hav3 the advantage to have my car up above my head. Though I took my time and had my wife available to assist. Still took close to 3 hours! There were differences between the instructions and my car. Mine in a Sonata SE. Soonly one muffler and plastic on the driver’s side. Laying under the car and boring out the hole above the muffler more difficult in close quarters. On the driver’s side, the plastic cannot be reinstated with the hitch in place. My other concern comes with use of a 2” adapter to add the bike rack. The adapter fitting into the 1 1/4” receiver is loose, which will allow the bikes and rack to bounce around!
So happy we bought straight from etrailer. Super fast.. super friendly.. seriously super communication and incredibly fast shipping. Would have taken weeks on [online]. Got it in only a few days at compatible prices. Excellent job people at etrailer!!!

Shipment arrived on time! I have been an Automotive Technician for about 40 years. I watched the installation video online and then did the hitch install on my car. The video was exactly as my install went. Every part was as described and all the parts fit perfectly! Excited to try it out for the first time soon.
Steve - 12/10/2021Installation went very well and I'm especially pleased with how tight this fits to the rear bumper. It's barely noticeable once installed. No modifications to the heat shield were needed and only a slight trimming of the underbody panel was needed. As usual, etrailer comes through again with another high-quality product!
So far so good. Easy to tow lightweight trailers. Mainly got it for my Jetski. In total my ski and trailer are probably around 800-900lbs. A little nervous about the wear and tear on my Kia. I don’t plan on using it often. The transmission and shocks are bound to have a short life I’m sure. Anyhow, I knew what I was doing before I installed everything.

Took about 2 hours to install by myself. The online installation video shows just how easy it is. and there were no hidden surprises.
What is hidden is the hitch in my photo, it tucks nicely under the bumper and is hard to photograph.....just the way I wanted it.

Ordered on Sunday, delivered on Wednesday and installed Thursday evening.
Frankly, the shipping box was destroyed, the hitch was protruding out of torn cardboard. I have not inspected it yet for damage or to see if the hardware is still present. Hopefully it isn't bent and aligns to the car's mounting points. It is pretty banged up.
Jenny N - 11/30/2021Unlike most, this company actually has their [stuff] together. They provide a great product with straight forward instructions. I didn't have to wait 6 months to get it due to "shortage" the installation was smooth an simple.
My Hitch for my 2016 Sonata arrive yesterday.
The box protected the metal just fine with no scratches or damage as far as I can tell.
I plan to install the hitch next week, so I will be responding one more time after I get it installed.
