Does Using Tuson Electric Sway Control Wear Out Brakes Sooner

Updated 09/15/2025 | Published 05/29/2025

Question:

We are going to be pulling the ultra light Rove Lite 16RB with our 2021 Subaru Outback Touring XT with a 3500lb towing capacity. It appears the Rove Lite comes from the factory with the Tuson anti sway system. My question is, by using the brakes to control sway, versus a mechanical anti sway hitch like the Andersen, do you end up having to replace the brakes a lot sooner? Thanks guys. Also, we love that you guys sponsor Wild RV Life and Open Roading!

Hey Randy, that's a great question but no you don't end up wearing out the trailer brakes at a significantly higher rate when using an electric sway control system like the part # 335TSC-1000. The application of the brakes is pretty light to stop the sway and you won't even really notice it.

Hey Randy, I'm glad I could help with your question about the Tuson sway control system. How has it been working for you with your Rove Lite and Subaru Outback? I'd love to hear your experience to help others considering a similar setup.

@JamesonC the person who was going to sell us the Rove Lite with the Tuson sway control changed their mind about selling. We ended up buying a 2025 LIV 19BHD instead. These are a super light composite travel trailer that uses no wood in the construction. Dry weight is around 2450. We are pulling it with our 2021 Outback XT and we did some tests around home and decided we didn't need a sway control system. We are currently half way through a 4000 mile trip and everything is going well.
