Question:
Sir, My daughter has a 2024 Toyota Sienna Woodland with factory towing package and I would like to be able to tow a T@B 400 trailer. She needs to get a 7-pin connector installed but I am wondering which electric braking she needs and what weight distribution hitch she might need? Does she need a weight distribution hitch? Thanks!

Hello Tim,
Since your daughter’s 2024 Toyota Sienna came equipped with only a 4-flat trailer connector, she’ll need a kit that we assemble in-house to upgrade to a 7-way. I recommend the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires # ETBC7. This kit will require running a power line from the battery, installing a few circuit breakers, and routing a brake wire from the front to the rear of the vehicle. I’ve attached an installation video that walks through the process step by step.
For the brake controller, I suggest the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller w/ Universal Wiring Harness - Dash Knob - Proportional # RED52VR. The Sienna doesn’t have a factory plug-in for a vehicle-specific pigtail, so the wiring will need to be spliced in manually. While I don’t have an install video specifically for the Sienna, the attached video (on an FJ Cruiser) shows a similar install. If you skip ahead to around 13:15, you’ll see the brake controller portion.
Regarding a weight distribution system, it’s not strictly required, but it will improve the towing experience—especially for stability and comfort. Based on the specs I found for the T@B 400 trailer, which lists a GAWR of 3,900 pounds, you’ll want to ensure the tongue weight is in the 10–15% range of the total loaded weight. A great option is the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control for 2" Hitch - 5.5K GTW, 550 lbs TW # BXW0550.
Will you be doing the install for her?

Hey Tim, did you decide to go with the brake controller and weight distribution system I recommended for your daughter's Sienna? I'm curious to know how the installation went and if it improved the towing experience, as it could help others in a similar situation.
