Are 5,200 lb Leaf Springs Rated Too High To Replace 3,500 lb Leaf Springs

Updated 06/05/2025 | Published 05/22/2025

Question:

Would this be too much leaf spring for a 3500lb axles? I would like it to be a bit heavier than stock. The 3500lb leafs have sagged over time.

Hey Alex! I would say that 5,200 lb leaf springs like the # DX45CR are a bit too much. Moving to these over the 3,500 lb is quite a jump, and you'll probably have a really stiff ride you don't want. Assuming you're looking for 25-1/4" leaf springs I would get the # e57SR instead. The 4,000 lb rating will give you stronger leaf springs without going overboard. If you prefer the Dexter version it would be # DX35CR.
